Leorio Paradinight (レオリオ゠パラディナイト, Reorio Paradinaito) is an apprentice hunter and member of the Zodiac, codenamed "Wild O" (Hi, I). He is currently a medical student studying to become a doctor.
Leorio is a tall, masculine-looking, somewhat muscular young man with small brown eyes, black hair and a spiky haircut. He usually wears a dark blue suit, black shoes and a pair of brown sunglasses. Some characters, such as Killua at the beginning of the story, mistake Leorio for an old man, but he is actually much younger than he was, as he was a teenager at the beginning of the series.
Leorio is initially presented as an extremely selfish narcissist who places a high value on material possessions. Although he claims that he was only working for the money, he eventually reveals to Kurapika that his dream is to become a doctor to help the poor one day. He believes that everything in the world (life, dreams, etc.) can be bought and that becoming a hunter will provide him with the money for a medical education. Because of his first fight with Kurafika, and the Judging by what he went through on the way to the navigator's cabin, he seems to be sensitive to those who disagree with him. Don't take him seriously, or respect him. His real priorities seem to be his friends first, then his dream of becoming a great doctor, then everything else.
Leorio is not one to hesitate and back down when faced with huge challenges in battle. He is a loyal and trustworthy ally who values friendship and acts as a "big brother" to the team. He often provides comic relief. Killua sometimes teases him about how old he is, though he swears he only looks like a teenager. His impulsive and reckless personality sometimes causes more trouble to those around him. Another of his talents is his ability to express his opinion in many situations. It can be seen that the person he has the closest relationship with on the team is Kurapika, as they spend the most time together.
At the end of "New York City", Melody claims he has "the coolest heartbeat in town", saying "it's warm and good", and that he would make a better doctor than the hunter.
Leorio's once close friend (a boy named Pietro in the 1999 animated film adaptation) dies of an illness. Leorio feels very sorry that he cannot save his friend, because the disease is completely treatable but requires surgery, which he cannot afford. Therefore, he strove to become a doctor - not only to treat his illnesses, but also to work for those who could not afford it. From this it appears that the whole reason for taking the hunter exam in pursuit of great wealth has a more noble reason - the money he earns is used not only to pay for medical school fees, but also to pay medical bills and Other miscellaneous expenses. . In treating those who cannot afford the price.
Leorio first appeared on a ship that departed from Gaon's hometown of Whale Island to the location of the 287th Hunter Exams, he, Gaon, and Kurapika were the only three candidates who were not affected by the violent storm the night before. The captain reveals himself as the examiner and asks why they want to become hunters. Kurapika reluctantly replied that he wanted to arrest the Phantom Troop. On the other hand, Leorio responds to the captain that he is attracted to the material wealth offered by the fisherman. The two quarreled over differences of opinion and decided to end the quarrel by fighting on deck while another storm broke out. When they were about to leave, one of the crew members fell overboard due to a broken piece of wood in the yard. Gon jumped off the deck and caught him, while Kurapika and Leorio prevented him from falling into the sea. After the incident, the two apologized to each other and reconciled. When he saw the captain laughing, he decided to take the three of them to Zapan City, the closest testing site.
