33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”

36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.

37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome. 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.


33 正午になると、暗闇が全土を覆い、午後三時まで続いた。 34 そして、午後三時、イエスは大声で、「エロイ、エロイ、レマ・サバクタニ？」と叫ばれた。 （これは「わが神、わが神、なぜ私をお見捨てになったのですか？」という意味です。）

35 近くにいた人々のうちの何人かがこれを聞いて、「聞いてください、彼はエリヤを呼んでいます」と言った。

36 だれかが走って、海綿にぶどう酢を入れて杖に置き、イエスに飲ませた。 「もう、彼を放っておいてください。 エリヤが彼を倒しに来るかどうか見てみましょう」と彼は言った。

37 イエスは大声で叫びながら息を引き取られた。

38 神殿の幕が上から下まで真っ二つに裂けた。 39 そして、イエスの前に立っていた百人隊長は、イエスの死に方を見て、「確かにこの人は神の子だった」と言った。

40 何人かの女性が遠くから見守っていました。 その中にはマグダラのマリア、弟ヤコブとヨセフの母マリア[d]、そしてサロメもいた。 41 ガリラヤでは、これらの婦人たちがイエスに従い、彼の必要を気遣っていました。 彼と一緒にエルサレムにやって来た他の多くの女性たちもそこにいました。
