Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: See The Teaser Trailer, Release Date, And More

Castlevania: Nocturne is undoubtedly the best-ever adult animated action series. Since it debuted last year, fans have been curiously waiting for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2’s return. But is it on the cards? You’ll be surprised to learn that Netflix already has plans for its highly-anticipated follow-up season. It’s been only a few months since Netflix dropped the spinoff series of its original animated series, Castlevania. But fans can’t get the fantastic scenes out of their mind. With the hype around the sophomore run, let’s see what we know about season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne.

The animated series is an adaptation of the 1993 Konami video game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and its sequel Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. It follows Richter Belmont, the descendant of Trevor Belmont, who goes on a quest to remove night creatures and vampires. However, with the power-greedy vampires and the French Revolution in play, things become challenging for Richter to deal with. With Richter on a mission to make the world peaceful for humans, will he be able to deal with the bloodsucking monsters? Let’s see!

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: Renewed Or Not?

Castlevania is undoubtedly the biggest-ever production. Since the video game was launched back in the 80s, it has been abuzz. With Trevor Belomont’s Castlevania running for four seasons till 2021, fans received a surprise with a spinoff series announcement. However, it’s been almost ten months since we last saw Richter Belmont fighting against the vampires. Now, fans are curious to see whether their favorite protagonist will hit the screen again. And what if we tell you he will?

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 Topped Ranking Countries
Netflix Global Top Ten Chart/ Castlevania: Nocturne topped in 41 countries

Yes, you read that right! Netflix already has plans for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2. Just after the series hit our screen, the giant streaming platform surprised its audience with a season 2 announcement. Well, there’s no brainer as to why the series received a sophomore run. Shortly after its first season, the series received positive ratings from the fans as well as the critics. It garnered 96% on Rotten Tomatoes ; on IMDb, it earned 7.4 out of 10.

In addition, the animated series remained on the Global Top 10 TV (English) for almost two weeks and in almost 41 countries, including the Bahamas, Bulgaria, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and more. There, the series ruled the charts for more than a week. Thus, there’s no doubt why Netflix decided to renew the series just after a month of its debut.

Official Announcement

There’s no denying that Castlevania: Nocturne surprised its fans with its epic battle scene. While fans wished for more, Netflix dropped an official announcement trailer teasing Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2. It quickly took fans by storm, as nobody had ever thought the streaming giant would make such a quick announcement.

That’s because Netflix typically takes a couple of months or more to review the series, and based on its reception and watch hours, the streaming giant makes its decision. But this was a totally different case with the Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2. The streaming giant shared an announcement video featuring some unfinished art of the characters. While the trailer didn’t give much information about the next season, it did hint at who would return.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: Production Status

Netflix has not only renewed Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2, but the series is also in production. The streaming giant dropped an announcement clip, which featured some rough artwork. It quickly left fans believing that the series was already under development. If it does, we expect that the second season will have reached its halfway to completion. That’s because the animated series generally takes a year or more to wrap up production.

When it comes to Castlevania: Nocturne, it is believed that the production will last between 12 and 18 months. That’s because the pilot season took almost the same time to finish production. But one thing to remember here is that if some issues behind the scenes arise at the studio house, then the predicted timeline will be extended. Still, we can expect that the series will soon undergo the post-production stage.

Which Studio Will Produce The Show?

As soon as Netflix announced the second season, it clearly revealed that Powerhouse Animation would return as the production studio. The studio house was founded in April 2001 in Austin, Texas. While the studio has created several 2D animation projects, it has developed multiple digital and animation projects over time. The animation house is solely responsible for the biggest hit parent series, Castlevania. It has also created several hit animation series like Blood of Zeus, Skull Island, Seis Manos, and Masters of the Universe.

Powerhouse Animation is currently working on Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which will hit the screens this year (2024). Since the studio house has been working on its upcoming project as well as its past project spinoffs, Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 might face some delay. However, we will update you on that. Besides the animation studio, Clive Bradley and Kevin Kolde will return as the series showrunners. Sam and Adam Deats will serve as the series director.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: Plot

Season 1 of Castlevania: Nocturne took us back to 1783 when we were introduced to young Richter Belmont and his mother, Julia. After the French Revolution took place, Julia decided to run away with her son from France to safer ground. However, the 250-year-old vampire Olrox killed Julia before she could flee in front of Richter. In a tragic event, Olrox spared Richter’s life but warned him that he would return once the young boy would be grown up.

However, this made Richter hate the vampires more. Throughout the series, the vampire hunter and his fellow revolutionaries fight against the aristocrats and blood-thirsty vampires. But he had bigger problems to face in the future, including the vampire messiah Erzsebet. She had planned to block the sun forever with her spells. As her power grew stronger in the first season’s finale, it would become challenging for Richter to deal with Erzsebet.

While it remains unclear what story arc Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 will follow, fans can expect a showdown between Richter and Erzsebet. The vampire hunter will do his best to kill Erzsebet, and with Alucard by his side, things will definitely change for the better. However, we shouldn’t forget that the Vampire Messiah’s power is rising, which means she can turn the table anytime. Besides this, Tera’s story arc will also play a significant role in the second season. She has now turned into a vampire. So, seeing how things will work for her will be interesting.

Is There Enough Source Material?

Of course, yes! The series is based on the video game Castlevania, which was launched in 1986 and released many new games until 2014. The franchise has a total of 30 games at present. With Castlevania: Nocturne being an adaptation of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, we expect the second run to delve deeper into Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness. Given that there is ample source material left to explore, we can expect that the animated series can run for four or more seasons.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: Cast

Although the official announcement trailer didn’t reveal anything about the Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 cast, co-showrunner Kolde revealed that fans’ favorite characters would return. These are:

  • Richter Belmont – Edward Bluemel

  • Annette – Thuso Mbedu

  • Maria Renard – Pixie Davies

  • Tera – Nastassja Kinski

  • Edouard – Sydney James Harcourt

  • Erzsebet Báthory – Franka Potente

  • Olrox – Zahn McClarnon

  • Mizrak – Aaron Neil

The first season saw the demise of many prominent characters. Despite that, Sam, Adam Deats, and Kevin Kolde shared that fans could get more of Alucard (James Callis) and Juste Belmont (Iain Glen). Not only this, but the co-showrunner also suggested that Dracula could make his return. There’s a talk about the greatest villain of all time, and Klode thinks it will be right to bring back Dracula. If he returns for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2, then Graham McTavish will definitely return to voice the villain.

Is Castlevania: Nocturne Worth Watching?

There’s no denying that Castlevania: Nocturne is an absolute must-watch series. Even critics say that, too. However, the series received a bittersweet reception on Reddit. No doubt, many fans liked the series and even praised its work. However, some remained disappointed as the series only partially adapted Rondo of Blood. It did give justice to the video game, but multiple original storylines made things complicated for avid game lovers.

A Reddit user shared that Nocturne’s first season was epic. It did remarkable work, just like its parent series. However, it only shares 50% of the storyline of the Rondo of Blood. Thus, Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2 is required to give justice to the series. Meanwhile, another user said, “This series is a worthy successor that has incredible potential.” The series has undoubtedly established its own universe, and it can go to three or more seasons. However, many still believe that the narration team could have done better.

Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2: Release Date

As we mentioned above, the series is currently in the development stage, but it won’t take much time to return to our screens. The official website of Powerhouse Animation Studios hints that they are currently animating Castlevania: Nocturne Season 2. While it’s a good sign, the political issues behind the scenes can push the series’ release date.
