Frieza's powers were once known as the Cold Force (コルド軍, Korudo Gun, translated as "Cold Army"), and long before that, the Child Army (チルド軍, Chirudo Gun).
King Cold was the leader of the Cold Force, before passing control over to his son who gave him the name Frieza Force. The military recruits powerful races like Saiyans to control the right planets and enslave them to sell to the highest bidder. Frieza doesn't really think of his soldiers as an army, he sees them more as a group of followers. In fact, the soldiers follow their relatives out of fear, although some soldiers are known to be very loyal to Frieza, such as the Ginyu Frieza army, who manage Frieza's power to be worthy.
