10 Leveling tips in Pokémon Legends: Z‐A

Here are 10 solid tips for leveling up efficiently in Pokémon Legends: Z‐A — useful for building up your team, hitting higher levels quickly, and staying ahead of the curve.

1. Use the EXP Share (automatically on) & focus more on high-yield activities
Every Pokémon in your party gains experience from battles. But not all battles give the same rate. Aim for activities that yield higher EXP rather than just random wild Pokémon.

2. Farm the nightly "ZA Royale" trainer-battle loop
The special Battle Zones at night (in the city) give big EXP + coins. Running a loop of many trainer wins in one night/uninterrupted session nets large gains.

3. Collect Mega Shards → convert to EXP Candies
Mega Shards appear in the world; once you accumulate enough you can trade them (via the shop) for EXP Candies, which let you boost your Pokémon's levels more directly.

4. Break environmental obstacles for "passive" EXP
While exploring the world, use moves to break boulders, cut down brambles, clear sludge etc. Each obstacle cleared gives bonus EXP. Handy when you don't want full battle grinding.

5. Prioritise catching wild/Alpha Pokémon as well as defeating them
Capturing wild and especially Alpha Pokémon gives extra EXP compared to just defeating them, so it's efficient to seek them out during exploration.

6. Use EXP-boost items (e.g., the Red Canary Plush) early on for multiplier gains
Items that boost EXP gains are very useful. For example the "Red Canary Plush" (or equivalent) increases EXP gains. Getting these early helps all your leveling runs become more efficient.

7. Build a balanced team and rotate weaker/unused Pokémon into the party occasionally
If you focus only on one or two favorites, the others lag behind and later bottleneck you. Rotate in weaker / newer forms so they also gain levels from EXP Share; that way you won't be scrambling later.

8. Plan your routes in the Battle Zone: coin pickups + win count matter
When you go for the nightly trainer loop, it helps to optimise your path: pick up coins scattered in the zone (they boost final payout), and aim for 30+ wins in that session to hit the top multiplier for EXP/money.

9. Don't neglect EV/IV training for your stronger Pokémon
Once you reach mid or late game and want to make your team really competitive, proper EV (Effort Value) and IV (Individual Value) management matters. Leveling fast is good, but good stats make your levels count.

10. Use time-skipping or day/night cycles wisely
The game has time of day mechanics relevant for spawning trainers, wild zones, etc. If you're stuck or want to maximize trainer battles, skip ahead (via benches in Pokémon Centers) to night where the Battle Zones are active, or adjust your exploration accordingly.

Bonus tip:
If you're aiming for end-game or completionist goals (like certain research levels, or shiny hunting), having a strong leveling routine set up early will pay huge dividends. One player wrote:
